That's why I said an in-use life. Many books spend months sitting on the 
shelves in between loan periods.

But I agree with you about the library model. Libraries are 
intermediaries just as publishers are. The same forces that are 
radically altering the working environment of a book publisher will 
radically alter the working environment of a librarian.
