The reason search engines like Google have deep pockets is because they 
sell a service that people want and need. Crippling search engines to 
try and enforce legal constraints would result in a global situation 
like that at my daughter's school -- billions of valuable sites cut off 
because of stupidly over-sensitive filtering software, making the 
computers useless for serious work.

If it comes down to a choice between letting some illegal distribution 
continue or radically curtailing the effectiveness of search engines, 
then frankly the legal eagles haven't got a snowball's chance in hell. 
And thank goodness for that!
