Yes and no. 

Despite being told that Nook will NEVER replace Fictionwise (Fictionwise being a multiformat channel with a huge established audience...and Nook being...well...Nook), B&N shows no signs of reopening Fictionwise for new publishers. I did hear from them last year...same old dreck about how the new contract is “coming soon.” They didn’t even bother to answer this year. If they have ANY chance of competing with Amazon, it’s with Fictionwise growing and changing, but try convincing THEM of that. They have blinders on and don’t want to hear it. They still believe Nook has a chance of doing it alone and are ignoring potential sales that far outweigh Nook (in my personal experience), when they already OWN the channel to do it with. 

At the same time, Fictionwise is still a very vibrant sale channel that B&N is unlikely to drop, as long as they are raking in bucks from it. They’d be fools to do so. But it cannot grow and improve, as long as B&N is holding it back. Honestly, I wish they’d sell it BACK to the Pendergrasts and let them run the show right...just as they did before B&N bought it. Better would be advances where publishers can opt to load their files directly instead of using the old FW process. Since most of us produce our own formats these days or pay someone to produce them, we have the files we want to sell already and can load them as we do on ARe/OmniLit or other sites. 

So, no...it’s not dead, if you’re already on it. Yes, it is dead, if you’re not.

I wouldn't expect to hear anything out of Fictionwise ever again. They were
bought by Barnes & Noble for their e-book technology, and ever since that
happened the Pendergrasts who founded it haven't been allowed to talk to
anyone, and the new things such as the Linux client that the Pendergrasts
had been talking about prior to the acquisition never materialized. B&N has
no interest in allowing Fictionwise to innovate or do anything else new,
since they want all their effort to go into outcompeting Amazon with their
Nook.

I think Fictionwise and eReader are just as dead as Amazon's Mobipocket.
The corpses just haven't stopped twitching yet.
