Personally, I think motion video (instead of just still pictures) are great for book trailers--if you can afford it. In other words, an actual trailer similar to a movie trailer. My publishing company did two such trailers, both of them with actors in scenes taken from each book. You can find them here:

I've seen great still-picture trailers with voice overs, but IMO, motion (or maybe animation) is best, especially for a mystery.

I'm about to ask someone to put together a book trailer for me. It's for a mystery, very different from the one book trailer I did several years ago for a nonfiction book.

So I'm trying to learn all that I can about book trailers.

What makes a good one, to your mind? What components *must* be included, and which ones can be/should be left out? What do you look for in a book trailer?

I think that especially for ebooks, a good online presence is important and I'm hoping to reach out to the video-watching people (I'm really not one of them) to interest them in this upcoming mystery.

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom!

Jeannette
