If the book can be split so that it's like a normal trilogy, with
each book making sense by itself, splitting it into multiple books
sounds good to me.  If it can't be split such that each book can
stand on its own, then the separate so-called "books" aren't really
books in the artistic sense but volumes of a multi-volume work.

If you split the single work into multiple volumes, please make it
clear to potential readers in the advertising, blurbs, et cetera
that you have done so.  Otherwise any cliff-hanger "endings" will be
viewed as nothing more than marketing-oriented manipulation of the
readers.
