An article in this month's Harper's magazine -- what, you don't
subscribe to it already? -- mentions my site. To think the highbrow
have lowered themselves to my level, that of a "middlebrown dominatrix."
Next, I take on the NY Times.

I went to the gynecologist this week. Rather, I went to a nurse
practitioner at an OB/GYN practice. And I've never felt like a bigger
dyke -- so loved, so comforted by my tittied brethren.

"Welcome to the family," both the nurse and nurse practioner said as I
entered the exam room. "We're so glad that you've chosen our practice.
Please get undressed, so that we can induct you into our ways."

As the nurse practitioner groped my breasts, she told me about and
demonstrated the different methods women use when examining their
fleshmounds. Some like it circular, while some find a sweeping motion
more satisfying. Others like to pinch their nipples as they finger
themselves. Who knew there were so many methods in which a woman could
check for lumps?

When it came time to put my feet in the stirrups -- certainly my
favorite part of the exam -- she said that she likes to pretend that her
legs are holding up the walls and if she brings them too close together,
the ceiling will collapse. I, on the other hand, like to pretend that
I'm not having an unattractive earth mother stick her fingers in my
twat. Whatever gets you through.

She told me that my vagina was beautiful -- she was tickled pink, indeed
-- and congratulated me for being one of the few women who wears her
underwire bra properly. I think she liked me. Teehee.

After the exam, she brought me to a back room, where a group of naked
women were practicing menstrual extraction on each other and a coven of
Pagan sisters made a mixture with pennyroyal tea.

All in all, a success of an afternoon.

Still no tubal -- really, what's the point of even asking until my eggs
are too rotten to produce anything but 'tard kids -- but I'm getting an
IUD. Probably more than you wanted to know, but you can breathe a sigh
of relief that you're safe from the prospect of TMB children for at
least another 10 years.

How about some Stupid Teen Girl news?

Currently, STG is trying hard to live up to the standards set by HBO's
"Sex and the City," and you can't fault a 19-year-old girl for wanting
to get ass-fucked by 30-somethings she meets on the Internet. Isn't
that a dream we all share?

When STG's computer fails, I usually go over to fix it -- she hasn't yet
discovered the concept of dating men who can provide a service other
than a good dicking -- and I can't help but search through her saved
chat sessions and collection of Internet perv photos.

(Nor could I help but notice that her birth control pills hadn't been
taken in two days. TMB kids = no. STG kids = yes. The world is a
cruel place.)

Admittedly, I don't read women's magazines, but I'm pretty sure that
having 20 sex partners (many of whom were met as she cruised chat rooms
as "fkable69xxx") isn't the norm for 19 year olds. In one of her chat
sessions, a 30-year-old guitarist for a going-nowhere Jersey metal band
told her that she has issues. And when a heavily tattoed loser tells
you that you have issues, you might as well drive to the nearest psych
hospital.

I also found naughty pictures of her that were taken by a 36-year-old
used car salesman. A used car salesman who is balding. But who tried
to hide it in one photo by using Photoshop to lower his receding
hairline. I giggled as I scrolled between the original photo and the
doctored one. Receding hairline: now you see it, now you don't.

I don't know what's wrong with her, but the thought of possibly having a
child like that is reason enough to cross my fingers and hope that the
IUD causes scarring that renders me infertile.

To brighten your day, I updated my site AND changed the layout. Whew,
I'm tired.

IOWA - A partially paralyzed resident of a Des Moines nursing home
burned to death Tuesday when flames erupted as he smoked a cigarette in
his wheelchair on the facility's patio.

Fire officials say an oxygen canister mounted on the rear of George R.
Baker Jr.'s wheelchair might have caught fire. Fire officials and state
nursing-home regulators said they would investigate the incident.

State regulators have cited the nursing home several times this year for
improper care and cleanliness problems.

Rescue workers said Baker, 54, was on fire for an undetermined amount of
time before someone inside noticed the flames and grabbed an
extinguisher.

Clark Allen, 44, of Minneapolis said he was walking by CLC University
when "I looked over and saw a ball of black smoke."

"I went closer and saw a man in a wheelchair. He wasn't moving," Allen
said. "I said, 'Hey, this man is burning!' Flames were shooting off his
back."

Allen, who is staying at the Bethel Mission in Des Moines, said he ran
to the building and tried to alert employees. "They ran outside, and
they were yelling things like, 'Oh, God!' Someone got a fire
extinguisher and started putting him out," he said.

Fire officials said an alarm triggered by sensors at the care center
alerted them to a problem. Someone from the center called in an alarm a
few minutes later, officials said.

Fire Investigator Brad Fousek said Baker, who suffered from lung disease
and the effects of a spinal injury, apparently had gone outside to have
a cigarette shortly before 10 a.m.

"On the machine on the back of the wheelchair, it said, "No smoking," "
Fousek said.

The tank had an apparatus attached that allowed Baker to breathe from
it. A cigarette lighter was found near the body, investigators said.
Officials could not immediately determine whether the oxygen equipment
was turned on when the flames broke out, Interim Assistant Fire Chief
Dan Sanders said.

NEW JERSEY - Two unidentified men, apparently upset about the slaying of
deer, started a fist fight with two hunters but got more than they
bargained for when it turned out both hunters were martial arts experts,
authorities said.

Police said yesterday the two hunters, a father and his teenaged son,
were legally hunting on farmland Saturday night. The father and son
-who he declined to identify - had a permit from the state Division of
Fish, Game and Wildlife allowing them to hunt deer on the property.

The incident happened about 11 p.m. after the father and son had
finished hunting. The pair had put away their weapons and were loading
their all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) into their truck when the two
strangers - described as white males 25 to 32 years old - came
"stomping" across a field toward them, police said.

The newcomers shouted obscenities and yelled, "Why do you keep shooting
our deer?" police related.

Police said the strangers went up to the hunters, raised their arms, and
threw punches at the two hunters.

But, police said, the father and son hunters are both martial arts
experts who were easily able to defended themselves against their
aggressors. He said the fight "did not last very long."

Seeking not to escalate the situation, the hunters got into their
vehicle and drove away, leaving the two unidentified combatants lying on
the ground, police said. Police said the father and son reported the
incident to police a short time later from a safe location.

PARIS - Don't break a leg in France this summer--hospital beds in the
country whose health system has been hailed as the world's best are
suddenly hard to come by as acute staff shortages are forcing whole
wards to shut.

Much of the blame lies with France's 35-hour working week law, applied
to doctors and nurses from October last year but in practice barely
feasible in a profession that already required that people work well
over the previous 39-hour maximum.

Instead, many medical staff are converting their swathes of accrued
overtime into longer holidays, exacerbating seasonal staffing lows just
as French hospitals brace for the usual flood of ill or accident-prone
holidaymakers and foreign tourists.

"It's not an exaggeration to talk about a crisis. Already, patient care
is being hit and safety is being compromised," said Francois Aubart,
orthopedic surgeon at the Eaubonne-Montmorency hospital in the northern
Paris suburbs.

"We are at saturation point and some patients are going to have to
wait," Aubart, who is also president of the health workers union CMH,
told Reuters.

With its expensive and well-equipped health care system ranked best in
the world by the World Health Organization, France last year even began
accepting patients from Britain, whose health service one French
minister derided as medieval.

But now French hospitals are beginning to feel the strain themselves as
the working week rules of former Socialist Prime Minister Lionel Jospin,
ousted in elections this year, effectively cut their overall manpower by
around 8%.

Aubart said French hospitals would be closing around a third of their
bed space this summer, double the usual seasonal fall in capacity. Worst
hit is the densely populated Paris region, where staffing is already
badly stretched.

The Roseraie hospital to the north of the French capital has shut down
its maternity ward altogether for the summer, while bed closures have
reached 60% elsewhere in the area.

Given the extent of the current shortages, unions appear ready to accept
the new arrangements, among the first steps by the government to put
Jospin's 35-hour week under broader review. But they insist they are no
panacea.

NYC - The city will pay a former Queens teacher $50,000 to settle an
unusual lawsuit charging he was harassed by special-education students
who mocked his accent and threatened to beat him, the Daily News has
learned.

Vincent Peries, who is from Sri Lanka, accused administrators of doing
nothing to help him after he complained that students at Francis Lewis
High School in Fresh Meadows called him "Gandhi" and immigrant shit.

Legal experts said the suit was the first of its kind in which a teacher
successfully brought a civil rights action alleging that students had
created a "hostile work environment."

The settlement was reached after a six-day trial in Brooklyn Federal
Court ended in a hung jury this month, Peries' lawyer, Jeffrey Slade,
said yesterday.

Peries, 68 and retired, was seeking $250,000 in damages. He is still
under psychiatric care for depression caused by eight years of student
abuse, Slade said.

According to court papers, school officials said they could not
discipline emotionally troubled special-education students simply for
verbal misconduct.

Slade said the case opened the door for other teachers to "sue school
officials for failing to take appropriate remedial action when faced
with a pattern of student harassment."

He said the amount of the settlement was less than Peries was hoping
for, but he made the decision to forgo another trial because of his
fragile psyche.

"The trial had brought back all the bad memories," he said.

A spokeswoman for the city Law Department did not return a call for
comment.

IOWA - A state judge upheld his decision that pregnancy test records
aren't confidential and ordered Planned Parenthood to turn over records
to help investigators find the mother of a newborn whose body was dumped
in the trash.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa has until Aug. 17 to turn over
records of pregnancy tests it administered, District Judge Frank B.
Nelson ordered on Monday.

"Astonishingly, PPGI apparently considers itself and its personnel to be
above the law and not required to respond to a valid issued and served
subpoena," Nelson wrote.

Planned Parenthood will appeal the decision to the Iowa Supreme Court,
said Jill June, president of the Greater Iowa chapter. June has said
she's willing to go to jail to protect the records.

Investigators say the records would help them find the mother of a baby
boy whose body was dumped in a compost bin at a recycling center in
Storm Lake on May 30.

The baby was just 24 to 48 hours old, authorities say, but because of
the condition of the body, they haven't determined how he died.

Medical records are confidential under Iowa law. County attorneys
argued, and Nelson agreed, that the records aren't medical records
because the staff who provide pregnancy tests aren't required to be
doctors or nurses.

Nelson granted authorities' request to obtain the records and subpoenaed
hospitals and the clinic for records of tests taken from August to May.
Planned Parenthood estimates nearly 1,000 tests were taken during that
period.

(The logic of this decision escapes me. A woman who tosses her newborn
in a compost bin probably isn't the kind of woman who visits Planned
Parenthood for a pregnancy test. Assuming she even took a pregnancy
test -- and didn't spend nine months pretending that she was getting a
bit chubby due to lack of exercise -- she likely did what most women do:
bought a $10 EPT at CVS.)

DENVER - A 19-year-old man was repeatedly raped at the Jefferson County
Jail after deputies placed him in a cell with a sex offender who had
attacked another inmate hours earlier.

The Littleton man was sexually assaulted on Jan. 3 and 4 after he was
placed in a cell with James Cornelius Westbrook, 20, who had just been
convicted that day of aggravated robbery.

The man was placed in the cell about six hours after Westbrook attempted
to sexually assault another inmate. That inmate screamed for help and
was removed from the cell at 2:45 p.m. Jan. 3.

The man was placed in the cell at 9:19 p.m. Westbrook forced him to
perform various oral and anal sexual acts, threatening to kill him if he
didn't comply and keep quiet, according to court records.

The victim had been arrested for failing to attend classes required as a
condition of his plea to drunken-driving offense.

It was his first time in jail.

"It's horrific," said his mother.

The victim told deputies that Westbrook threatened "to snap my neck in
half" if he didn't keep quiet, according to court records. When he
moaned in pain during the assaults, Westbrook told him not to cry or he
would kill him.

The victim cried when he reported the assaults to deputies, saying that
"he didn't want to die and was scared he would die in that cell,"
according to court records.

Westbrook claimed the victim approached him.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Tallman said the Littleton man was placed in
the cell because the allegations from the incident involving the first
inmate were not documented. New deputies came on duty in a shift change
and were unaware of the problem with Westbrook earlier that day.

Tallman said deputies separated Westbrook and the first inmate without
determining what happened.

"There was a verbal altercation between two inmates," she said. "No one
sees what occurred. The deputies received completely different accounts
from the two inmates."

Westbrook, who is black, said it was a racial incident. The other inmate
said Westbrook tried to force him to perform oral sex.

"There are personality conflicts in our facility all the time," Tallman
said. "They were separated with the deputies not knowing who was being
truthful."

Westbrook was convicted of sexually assaulting another inmate at Mount
View Detention Center when he was 13.

The January Jefferson County incident was not his last.

He is accused of sexually assaulting another inmate April 3 at the
Denver Regional Diagnostic Center where he was held awaiting placement
in a state prison.

Investigators said that inmate was "highly upset and crying, throwing up
in a wastebasket" as he described the attack.

The inmate said he didn't resist because he didn't want to be written up
for fighting, according to court records.

Westbrook claimed the sex was consensual and produced a handwritten note
he claimed was signed by the inmate, stating that they had agreed to
have sex.

The inmate later said he didn't want to press charges against Westbrook
because he was scared of him and feared retaliation from other inmates
if he had a "snitch jacket."

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Heidi Hayes said she could not
discuss why Westbrook was housed with another inmate at the diagnostic
center with his history of attacking cellmates.

Denver defense attorney David Lane said sexual assaults by inmates are a
pervasive problem and jailers have a duty not to "throw inmates into the
shark tank" if they have reason to believe another inmate poses a
danger.
