From: e-space <[email protected]> Subject: Participation in UNCRD E-Workshop on ICTs and Development October 28, 2002 Dear Sir/Madam, The Centre will conduct an e-workshop on "Moving from Virtual to Real Benefits in Local Development: Reflections in an E-Workspace" from 11 November - 13 December 2002 as part of the activities under the ongoing project on "Incorporating Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Human Security in Local Development (www.uncrd.or.jp/ict)." Through this initiative, we expect to generate discussion on practical means to bridge the digital divide through review of successful cases where ICTs have been used for local development, and debate on issues, strategies, implementation mechanisms, monitoring and evaluation, and training needs related to the subject. This will support the current UN thrust on bridging the digital divide and using ICTs to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The e-workshop will be divided into seven forums according to a range of themes related to ICTs and development as detailed in the attached aide memoire. We welcome your active participation in this e-workshop and look forward to jointly reaching a deeper understanding on the uses of ICTs for the poorest and weakest groups to provide appropriate training and policy support to the countries we are working in. Thank you for your kind attention, Yours sincerely, Devyani Mani Coordinator Human Security Projects UNCRD aide_memoire.pdf (Binary attachment)
