[Although all such consultant's reports have to be taken with large doses of
salt, it does indicate an interesting trend. Surprisingly they have not
addressed the use of SOA in areas outside of business supply chain, where
personally I think there will be far greater opportunities for innovation in
such fields as grids, network management, HPC, research, education, health
etc. Some excerpts from Grid Today article-- BSA]

Report Says SOA Spurring New Wave of Innovation

According to a new AberdeenGroup research report, "Service-Oriented
Architecture in the Supply Chain: What Supply Chain Managers Need to Know,"
companies are adopting Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to solve their
most pressing technology issues. The study involved nearly 300 executives
and found that 45 percent of companies surveyed have SOA or Web services
projects involving the supply chain underway.

The research report concludes that, with SOA, technology will finally
support business processes rather than having supply chain applications
dictate them.
