support the general conclusion that broadband will have a positive impact on

A report by the New Millennium Research Council finds that the U.S. could
save $800 billion in health care costs by accelerating deployment of
broadband technology, Healthcare IT News reports.

The report - which was authored by Robert Litan, vice president for research
and policy at the Kauffman Foundation and a senior fellow at the Brookings
Institution - finds that broadband adoption could lower medical and
institutional living costs, while also increasing labor output by placing
more senior citizens and disabled citizens in the work force, Healthcare IT
News reports.

According to Litan, the current pace of broadband adoption will yield $927
billion in savings and benefits by 2030. However, accelerated deployment
could yield additional benefits of $532 billion to $847 billion (Monegain,
Healthcare IT News, 12/8).

Flora Green, a spokesperson for the Seniors Coalition, said broadband "is a
technology that will save Medicare money." She added, "The time is at hand
for Congress to eliminate the barriers to full deployment of a national
broadband network," Technology Daily reports (Technology Daily, 12/8).
