space meeting notes form wednesday the 28th day of august in the year 2002

present where amy, onion, jay and mike and gwen

Incorporations update: Josh says the document is 85% done. Assured Jay that
it will be ready in no time. Jay will keep on his ass he says.

Medi of the Poor Update: Gwen went to meeting. MOP was concerned about
workshops here interfering with their stuff going on at Temple. Also
concerned about safety of our place. next meeting for the conference is
Thursday at DUTV.

various proposals and ideas were thrown about on having open house after or
during the conference at the space for people to come by and check it out.

We talked of having a discussion on opening communtiy media centers; we
should touch base with others doing similar work- other imcs community
centers?

Jay will bottomline the open house; Amy and Gwen will pull together the
workshop.

a tangent highlights the apparently exciting nature of IMC irc chat meetings

some ideas: others should bring their info for open house; maybe volta would
do a special broadcast?

Construccion:
Dave proposes to hire a contractor to finish whole back area, paying someone
to do it would ensure their focus and availability. it would also mean it
would get done right more or less.

the cost?  we should be specific about what we want before send someone to
do everything.

Jay says his crew may be available in November.
Gwen : Matty and Spiral Q may have some ideas for connections.

We consense on hiring someone to finish the back area and the remaining
joists.

this will mean an increase in fundraising again.

dave will talk to robin's crew; amy will talk to digger about estimates.

New Plans:
We took a look at the suggestions left by our architect friend, starting
with a hope that we can balance a consciousness of our energy level with the
ambitious plans we have set out for us.

starting from floor 3:
A: why tear down walls that just got done. the 3rd floor already has a
decent layout.
j agrees
Mike: most important stuff can be done with temporary walls.
A: conference room should be bigger with less traffic; kitchen is ideal for
that.
D: We concentrate on opening up, not rebuilding the layout.
J: put in moveable partition in kitchen. 2nd small room from front is dark;
we could tear down that wall any time. or put in window.
A: could be a tech working area, the toilet could be extended in the future.

2nd floor:
Skylight met with positivity
proposal for small rooms met with some saying they are too tiny
but walls are moveable
A: good for startup groups
D: i would go crazy in such a small space
A: down with diagram
D: let's think about the priorities
A: priorities = 1st and 3rd floor
some talk about volta location
we agree to take N wall of meeting room out, moving door and hallway for the
2ns floor to the east.
J: move door of front roon to end of the short hallway to decrease top of
stairway claustrophobia.
2nd staircase is nice but maybe in some future time.
a short discussion on the possibility of a back staircase ensues but then
stops abruptly when we realize we aren't interested in building anything.

1st floor
toilets in diagram  block view to back of space from street. toilets under
garden, or under stairs?
we seem to like the idea of a moveable partition to create different spaces.

consensus on toilets: top of basement stairs.

A: sprinkler system to double as lighting

for electric to progress we need to make final plans for walls.

2nd floor back room (currently imaginary)
J: should be sun room, lots of windows, big table, plants
M: columns to support the room running downstairs don't bother mike.
A agrees
we talk about plants and deck in the back.
jay will get doorbell

Should defenstrator move in, asks dave as a final agenda item and he is met
with enthusiasm.

taking charge of opening up and being around for workdays will be :Gwen for
yesterday (31st), dave on Sept 7, Jay for the 14th and Amy on the 21st.

we adjurn until next meeting which will take place at 4134 Lancaster at 7pm
on the 11th day September 2002.
