*Congress in a Confused Mode*

The Congress in Goa appears to be passing through another period of
uncertainty, with reports of internal differences over leadership and
organisational direction. Similar concerns have surfaced in other states,
including Tamil Nadu, raising questions about the party's ability to
rebuild public confidence after electoral setbacks.

The allegations against a recently reappointed state leader are serious,
particularly as they have come from senior members of the party. Such
issues deserve to be addressed transparently, as public trust depends on
accountability. The leader had earlier accepted responsibility for the
party's disappointing performance in a state once regarded as a Congress
stronghold.

Political developments in Goa have also highlighted how individual
ambitions often overshadow party ideology. The departure of Pratima
Coutinho to another party after being denied a ticket and the induction of
leaders with different political backgrounds have raised questions among
party workers about consistency in decision-making. Leadership changes,
including the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition, have also
exposed differences within the party ranks.

Goa has witnessed legislators leaving the Congress on more than one
occasion. While such decisions have often been justified in the name of
development, many voters remain unconvinced and perceive them as acts of
political convenience or self-preservation. Ultimately, it is the
electorate that will judge these decisions at the ballot box.

The return of leaders who had earlier left the party, despite previous
declarations that there would be no place for defectors, has also created
confusion among loyal supporters. Such reversals can weaken the credibility
of a party's commitments and leave dedicated workers disheartened.

For any political party, unity, ideological clarity, internal democracy and
consistency are essential for regaining the confidence of the people. The
Congress must address its internal differences and present a coherent
vision if it hopes to emerge as a strong and credible alternative.

In a democracy, the final verdict always rests with the people, who have
repeatedly demonstrated their ability to distinguish between principled
politics and political expediency.
