I am responding to bits and pieces from different e-mails.....

The portions of the Quran that address Arabs, by extension apply to everyone 
for all times.  eg: the Surah in which the Prophet (saw) is chided for 
overlooking the blind man and instead devoting his time to the elite of Mecca... 
don't we do that now?
Don't we reject our kith and kin in this day and age?  The verse about 
burying daughters... people may not be doing it in the same exact way but there are 
enough cases in which couples opt to abort daughters after finding out the 
gender of the feotus.  I believe that knowing the history through the ahadith 
helps understand the details.  How is it not applicable to our current times?  

Other than explaining the conditions of the times the ahadith tell us a lot 
more about Islam that is not detailed in the Quran... eg: the exact way of 
praying is not detailed in the Quran.  Application of specific laws of the Quran t
each the various ways these were interpreted and applied by the Prophet (saw) 
which we get from the ahadith.  

Just because there are a few questionable ahadith does not mean you throw the 
entire body of knowledge out... instead we should examine those specific 
ahadith against the knowledge from the Quran... that would be a more sensible 
approach.  eg: derogatory ahadith about women go against what the Quran says about 
women.  

The stories of the Bible have many inaccuracies that are not accepted by 
Islam that referencing the current version of the Bible makes no sense.  eg: the 
'sins' & immorality portrayed in the Bible, by some Prophets goes against the 
teaching of the Quran that Prophets are special chosen people sent to carry out 
a message and were above minor or major sins.  The story of Eve tempting Adam 
is different from the Islamic version.

There is too much valuable information in the ahadith that rejecting all of 
it is a little too extreme.
