On December 17th, French President Jacques Chirac, in a televised speech 
supported a ban on the hijab (a religiously-mandated head scarf worn by Muslim 
women)in state-run schools. 

France's estimated Muslim population of 5 million to 7 million has been left 
shocked and dismayed by the President's announcement, and many are taking to 
the streets in large-scale protests and demonstrations. 

Support for the Muslims of France has been felt all over the world; and 
January 17th has been set as a day of worldwide protest against the actions of the 
French government. Many Muslims see the action of Chirac as another indication 
that the "war on terrorism," which has affected millions of innocent Muslims 
in Afghanistan and Iraq, and is now reaching people in Western countries. Upon 
signing this petition you are strengthing this effort in gaining true rights, 
And strengthing the diversity of a world wide community. This Petition will 
be presented to the French Embassy’s across the United States as a sign of the 
world communities intolerance for discrimination and INJUSTICE.
