salam,

women who wear hijab for prayer only sometimes do so because they really believe hijab is mandated... perhaps even subconsiously. others do it out of respect for the other women who do believe it's mandated, etc. the hadiths mandate hijab for all times in front of non-muhrim (7 "relatives") males ... not just for salat.
