Walaikum Asalaam Afdhere, Thank you for your apology. And I hope you really will believe me and a few others on this list who were Catholic over others who are outsiders or against the faith. As far as some sites being government supported...I don't really know how anyone can believe what the government supports in this day age and believe it word-for-word. If so, there are some weapons of mass destruction I want to sell ya. I apologize in that I became so angry over the issue. Perhaps it is because recently my grandfather died and I attended his funeral mass. Perhaps it was the day before I read your messages on Catholics. Catholicism was very important to my family and my parents, while not also not believing everything the Catholic church dictates, were very upset about my converting to Islam and still do not support my decision. At the mass prayers are offered to Jesus and God. Communion is taken to remember the last supper by and for Catholics to recieve some of the holy spirit in the form of Jesus body and blood. The entire mass is to commemorate the sacrifice of Jesus for man's sins. While some believe it is idolatry, statues of Jesus and Mary adorn the church as earthly representations of them. And when you said that "a man" forgives men for their sins, you have a mistaken understanding of confession. God forgives the sins while the priest is the representative who helps you take part in the ritual of confession. Mary is a saint who can intercede for people. The belief is that God will listen to a saint's supplications, a saint who has no sin, rather than a sinner. If the saint requests then God may have mercy on the person. Contrary to popular belief, Mary is not "worshipped" as a god. She is revered as a saint. Some people may believe the line is so thin as to be the same thing, but to Catholics it is not. There are actually some similarities of the Catholic Church to Shia Islam. I personally have been to many churches. Baptist, Anglican, Catholic, Non-denominational, Evangelical, Pentacostal, Mormon. While all have subtle and somtimes major differences in theology they all believe in the trinity. They beleive Jesus as Man, Son, and God. Maybe it would benefit you to attend a Catholic church, if you haven't already, and meet some Catholics. Anyway, I believe that some people may be quite annoyed by this thread so if we continue the conversation and you have questions about points of belief, I 'll be glad to answer them off list. I beleive Orthodox Islam also does not recognize the Nation of Islam (or didn't for a long time if they do now). This does not mean those followers are not Muslim. They believe they are Muslim and they believe in one God and that Mohammed was his Prophet. > >I do not need you to give me proof on what some Christian sects say or believe. I'm aware of it. They say this because they do disagree with some points. Those same Christians would also say that Allah is not the same as God. Do you believe them when they say this? You believe in some idol, as far as they're concerned. I know this because they preach this in their churches, and I have been told by countless Christians that I do not worship the same God when I pray to Allah. You do offend me because I stated what beliefs all Christians have in common and this is why they are Christian. > >Now this point of debate is not about children going to heaven. I already conceded the point that Catholics beleive differently than some other non-denominational and Protestant (I label them this so I don't have list the many sects) religions on this matter of baptizing babies and where they will go in the afterlife. > >I continue to write on the subject because you refuse to believe the truth. Please understand, some Muslims also are sure Shias and Sufis are not Muslim. Some would say that some Progressives are not Muslim. Do you see the similarities? It does not matter what those people told you. They are wrong because they have been indoctrinated against the Catholic Church in some of the same ways they are indoctrinated against Muslims. > >Laura Hussain > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Afdhere Jama ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out the great features of the new MSN 9 Dial-up, with the MSN Dial-up Accelerator. _______________________________________________ ProgressiveMuslims mailing list [email protected] http://willo.nitric.co.za/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/progressivemuslims
