Salam: To the person who just wrote to the list: There are many sources to whom you can go on the issue of homosexuality and Islam. Coincidentally I just read a very, very well-researched article that was contained in the recently published volume, Progressive Muslims edited by Omid Safi. The article, "Sexuality, diversity and ethics in the agenda of progressive Muslims" by Scott Siraj Al-Haqq Kugle, gives a lot of information and has a lot of sources cited in endnotes that can serve you as suggestions for further reading. Prof. Kugle's e-mail address is listed in the book as [email protected] We have a scholar on this list who has researched this issue extensively, and I urge him to follow up this note with more suggestions: Imam Daayiee Abdullah. A short answer to your overall question is that there is no central authority in Islam and therefore no one Muslim attitude towards sexual orientation. Progressive Muslims don't have a central authority or a single view on the issue either. Wishing you productive reading and researching, Anna Ghonim _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus
