Islamic approaches to HIV??? HIV is a public health problem like any other. I suggest you treat it as such without injecting religion into the matter. To do so would in effect state: A. That as oppossed to other types of illnesses, contraction of HIV is a consequence of moral degeneracy and therefor warrents a religious treatment approach. Or that it can be prevented by exercising religious measures. AND .. B. That Islam has unique preventative prescription, when in fact the advocacy of abstinance and or monogamy is not unique to any religion or even any secular remedy. iT JUST HAPPENS TO BE an effective way of counteracting the problem. Dont draw parallels between the morality of behavior and illness of any kind .. Because the exceptions will more then always out weigh the God is punishing you argument. My suggestion is, use religion as a coping mechanism for those already afflicted with the disease and use facts and data to advocate for prevention. >From: "talib ul-Haq" >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [Progressivemuslimsnetwork] Sex and the sanctity of marriage >Date: Thu, 04 Mar 2004 16:32:32 +0000 > >Salaams Everyone, > >This may be a bad time to be introducing another topic which is also >related to on ogoing discussion that is already generating so much >mail. > >I am working on the question of Muslim approaches to HIV Aids, >including prevention.
