Hello, folks,

Just a quick response to the "time travel to the past" thread.

And an on point book recommendation.

One of the last books, I think, Arthur C. Clarke wrote, with Stephen Baxter,
had a "hard science" concept based on real world physics.

This is the wonderful book, "The Light of Other Days" by ACC.

Great premise, hard science, and skepticism.  Great book.

Anyone else read this?

Unless someone asks me not to, I am going to take the liberty of answering comments that I find interesting on this subject of trying to rescue loved ones who did not get frozen/suspended on Cryonet so that the discussion is shared with a bigger audience.  (when enough people complain this is too boring, I will drop it)

The big problem of backward time travel, as one of my philosophy professors used to say (a lot) is that if a person could travel back in time and he did and then he killed his mother before he was conceived then he would not exist so he could not travel back in time .. etc etc...

R has pointed out (below) that by creating simulations that can exactly duplicate history without having to be in the past (we can create brains exactly as they existed in the past and then revive those brains in the current time and IF an exact duplicate of your mind/brain IS you) then we can rescue people from the past without risking changing the past in such a way that the future is then also changed.

Some folks, such as Mike Perry if I'm not incorrect, believe in infinite
universes/realities. If this is so, it would be logical to conclude that
this same view goes backwarda into the past.

So, all you have to do is go backwards and if there is anything you do not
like, the Gods of the Infinite Universes will put you into the timeline you
need to get back to the future.

This might be similar to, or not, the one you went backwards from. Heck,
some there might believe in pinhold shrinking copy machines.

So it goes (went?),
