In response to David Stodolsky's post today, (Sunday): 
"An independent body that could speak for the Industry is essential in this type of situation. A representative from ALCOR will be seen to be as partial to that organization and thus anything they say will be discounted as biased. On the other hand, a person representing the Industry as a whole, while being seen as partial to cryonics, could be seen as impartial when it comes to defense of a particular organization. That person could even thank opponents for criticism and suggest that a revision of accreditation procedures should be undertaken to ensure the current problem would not reoccur, etc."

Hello!? It's called the Cryonics Society, (CryonicsSociety.org). But as David also stated "Some years ago, I put up a web site for what could have become a cryonics self-regulation and accreditation organization. That received no support whatsoever."

Ditto - virtually no support to CS either. So we wish we had it. We do. But we don't want to finance it. Guess we don't want it that much.

David, it is pointless for you to suggest a "sensible plan" without
explaining how it can be implemented. We only have two storage
organizations. Bearing in mind the utterly different "corporate
cultures," different procedures, and different priorities of these
organizations (one of which doesn't offer its own
standby/stabilization capability) how do you suggest reconciling their
differences in an effort to achieve unified standards that will be
endorsed by an independent body? And who will you find to lead such a
body and do all the rather boring and utterly thankless work? And, who
will pay for same?

The website for a cryonics self-regulation and accreditation organization started by David Stodolsky may be http://cryin.secureid.org/ (cryonics.info). The site required editing by people with scientific backgrounds and experience in writing about cryonics issues, so the intellectual skills for that must be high. But people with enough intellectual skills were not quickly coming to turn Cryonics.Info into a self-regulating body for the accreditation of cryonics organizations. A later proactive effort by Nick Pavlica, Bruce Waugh, and David Pascal is the Cryonics Society http://www.cryonicssociety.org which welcomes a broader volunteer help. They are also looking for volunteers with rather intellectual skills in medicine, lab research, computers, office, marketing communications, and organi
 zing. But at least it looks like as if there are also people invited who simply like to network with others via the telephone or the computer which would probably allow volunteering with lower valued abilities too. Therefore, it looks as if the range of skills demanded by the Cryonics Society is broad enough to attract more volunteers.
