I am fairly sure that the title of "CEO" was introduced at Alcor by
Jerry Lemler in 2002, when he asked for the title to be applied to
himself. I think Finance Department should be aware of this because I
seem to remember telling him about it a long time ago. While I was
working at Alcor in 2003 I checked the bylaws and found that there was
no provision for an officer with the title of CEO, but after some
discussion we decided not to revise the bylaws, for reasons which I
don't feel like going into here.

I find it hard to get very excited about this. On my list of issues in
cryonics, it is near the bottom in importance. I have to wonder why
trivia tend to dominate CryoNet, day after day, month after month, and
year after year.

The actual science behind it is complicated and difficult to understand without a lot of background knowledge and "reading around the subject". People want to have a sense of involvement, and so discuss issues on the periphery, ie management and administrative matters. 

Many people interested in cryonics are also involved with the mathematics based sciences, which give clearly defined results, whereas biology and related subjects is a descriptive science based on lots of knowledge where results are often based on statistical arithmetic. Indeed some doctors regard medicine as more of an art than science.
