It bothers me a little. But I've always thought it's Delany's way to
give a voice to every character. What I see in most of his works (and
rarely in those of other writers, especially the SF ones) is
convincing human beings. Not heroes, saviors, worldchangers but humans. 

The only truly and absolutely disturbing thing for me in a Delany
novel was the story about the father and the son in the graveyard in
Italy (if I recall correctly). That was hard to read. Still, the book
is one of the best excersises in style I've read.
