He's had options. Things get optioned all the time because having ownership of a lot of properties = power in Hollywood, even if these projects never get developed. I have had several of my novels optioned and they sat in development limbo for 18 months, and then renewed or dropped. Vonnegut stated he made more money off the continued renewal of options on all his work than his royalties. (CAT'S CRADLE, constantly under option for 30 years, is now with Leonardo di Capprio's company Appian Way, set for filming in 2009.) I'd like to see HOGG or THE MAD MAN filmed...it would never happen...maybe as cartoons. The animated HOGG, now that would be something! (I have an affinity for HOGG since I wrote the first critcal essay about it, in the Delnay issue of The Review of Contempory Fiction -- Spring 2005. I had the ms. before it was published.) Though I always thought "Aye, and Gamorrah" would have made a great Outer Limits episode.
