some tidbits from Delany's Clarion West reading

I was at the Clarion West reading (flew up from LA to attend and flew back the next morning, and totally worth it). During the Q&A period I mentioned that his last unambiguously SF work was _They Fly at Ciron_ and asked if he were planning to write some more SF relatively soon. He replied "yes" but expanded on that saying that he hadn't ruled out writing more SF, and that he had some project ideas that were SF, but his front burner consists of 2 or 3 non-SF works at the moment. Another person brought up the abandonment of _The Splendor and Misery..._. Delany said that the main reason he put it aside was that the "engine" driving it, his current relationship (I assume with Frank Romeo), ended. However, he said that Damien Broderick has claimed somewhere that one can read _The Mad Man_ as the second part of the _Stars..._ diptych, and he thought there was some merit to that argument. He read four scenes from _Dark Reflections_: the scene where the air is filled with falling flower petals (it didn't surprise me he read that one, as that struck me, when I read it myself, as a quintessentially Delany descriptive scene), the scene where Alfred meets the black deliveryman for the first time, the scene where Alfred talks about sex with his aunt on the phone, and the scene where Alfred's sock gets wet as he is going about his errands.
