I was starting to get name recognition around the 6th or 7th campaign, then I got married, took my wife's name and had to start over from scratch. Incumbents almost always get re-elected and are usually put into office by the local political machine. The one exception was Bobby Shriver, whose brother-in-law is the Governator.

Most serious candidates raise at least $100,000, much of which comes from special interests; developers, realtors, city employees, etc. The job pays $12,000 a year but you have control over a budget of 554 MILLION bucks, for a city of 80,000!

I'm running because I want to oppose that system and give residents a voice in how those millions are spent with a virtual town hall forum on the city website, for transparency, and to hold city officials accountable.
