Charles Sheffield wrote at least two science fiction re-imaginings of literary classics - and to my reading quite intentionally so, not something like a Rorschach test for readers. The first was "Godspeed," which is a retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island," and the other is "The Billion Dollar Boy," an SF version of Rudyard Kipling's "Captains Courageous." -- Helge
