At the same time other questions emerge: are the existing models of = collaborative translation, crowdsourcing, machine translated corpora, and= cloud-based CAT tools leading us towards a new era of multi-modal plural= ity or to a fragmented dystopia where quality becomes a casualty? Is the = interaction of human and machine in present and future translation ecolog= ies a harbinger of an enlightened posthumanism or a problematic process t= hat favours disembodied networks, algorithmic decision-making, and unsust= ainable growth in a time of runaway climate change and environmental degr= adation? This year=E2=80=99s graduate student conference will address wha= t Minako O=E2=80=99Hagan (2019) describes as a kind of quantum entangleme= nt, the link between human and machine, a crucial issue for our century. We invite proposals for papers from a variety of fields and perspectives = that engage with issues including, but not limited to: =09=E2=80=A2 Translation, technology and colonialism; =09=E2=80=A2 Gender issues in technologically mediated translation; =09=E2=80=A2 Technology and untranslatability; =09=E2=80=A2 Translation ecologies and eco-translation in a technologized= era; =09=E2=80=A2 Translator (in)visibility, status, and role in the context o= f advances in machine translation, AI, collaborative platforms, copyright= issues, and non-professional translation; =09=E2=80=A2 Technology and politically engaged translation, including cr= isis translation and disaster management; =09=E2=80=A2 Technology and translation process, including neural machine= translation, automated content enrichment, recent CAT tools, and the exp= ansion of post-editing machine translation; =09=E2=80=A2 Technology and specialized/technical translation, terminolog= y, and localization; =09=E2=80=A2 Technology and translation ethics; =09=E2=80=A2 Technology and issues in audiovisual translation and interpr= eting. Our one-day multilingual conference will address these and related topics= . Keynote speaker =E2=80=93 Sharon O=E2=80=99Brien is Professor of Translat= ion Studies at the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies, = Dublin City University. She obtained a PhD in 2006 on the topic of contro= lled language and post-editing effort (Irish Research Council Scholarship= ). She holds an MA in research on language for special purposes, text lin= guistics and machine translation (1993 =E2=80=93 EU-funded) and a BA (hon= s) in applied languages (Translation, French and German).
