Notes from SHERA Officers Meeting 20 January 2013

*SHERA Officers* met on January 20th, 2013 to make plans for the
organization. In attendance were Margaret Samu, President; Natasha
Kurchanova, Vice President and President Elect; and Yelena Kalinsky,
Treasurer and Secretary. Among the plans discussed were:



*Membership and Dues*

In order to fund its activities (Website, conference events, etc.), SHERA
will start collecting annual membership dues. Access to the list-serv
remains open to anyone who signs up, but only individuals who pay dues will
be counted as members.

Members are asked to pay dues by sending a check to Yelena Kalinsky,
Treasurer of SHERA. Yelena will send a receipt from SHERA so that the dues
are tax-deductible as professional expenses. (Members outside the U.S. will
be able to pay dues via the Website as soon as it is launched.)

Membership rates:

·      Regular members     $30.00

·      Students and scholars with income below $30,000/year   $15

·      Contributing Members     $50

·      Sustaining Members     $100

*Website*

Once funding is in place (in the coming months), SHERA will launch a
Website that will allow members to share resources, announce publications
and promote events. Members will be able to pay dues via the Website, which
will be much easier for those outside the U.S.

According to SHERA’s mission statement, “The Society seeks to improve
research circumstances for scholars, connect members to necessary
resources, provide a forum for ongoing conversations on areas of mutual
interest, and foster contacts among members.” Our forthcoming Website will
help us to achieve these goals.



*Meeting at the College Art Association Annual Conference*

SHERA will have an informal meeting at the end of CAA in New York, at 5:30
pm on Saturday 16 February. Members will be able to meet one another, learn
about upcoming activities, and pay dues in person (receipts given for dues
paid in cash).

We will meet at a café close to the conference site: Le Pain Quotidien on 53
rd Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue on the second floor.



*Constitution Committee*

SHERA officers are looking for two members-at-large to help edit a
constitution for our organization. These members-at-large will join the
officers in reading drafts of the propose constitution, evaluating them,
and making suggestions for improvement. All communication will be done
electronically.

We are especially interested in having participation from members who live
outside the U.S and/or who work in areas outside of modern Russian art—for
example, members who work on Eastern Europe or Eurasia, architectural
historians, and art or architecture before 1700.
