Dear SHERA members and list subscribers, Would you like to meet colleagues from Russia and Eastern Europe at CAA? SHERA is looking for one person to help "host" travel grant recipients from Russia and Eastern Europe navigate the College Art Association Annual Conference in New York 10-14 February 2015. This year there are five visitors coming from SHERA's part of the world: Russia, Croatia, Ukraine, and two from Hungary. Ideally the host will arrive in New York on Monday 9 February (with a stipend from CAA toward hotel and some coffees/meals with visitors) in order to attend a preconference colloquium on international issues in art history on Tuesday, February 10. SHERA's host for CAA in February 2014, Eva Forgacs, described it this way: "Their visit was superbly organized by Janet Landay (from CAA)...so my task was to serve as an anchor to them, and make them meet as many colleagues as possible. We participated at the pre-conference session where each grantee gave a ten-minute talk about his or her country, work, and projects. This was a fascinating day of virtual travel around the globe from Brazil to Poland to Malaysia to Cameroon, and on. I think each of us felt humble in the face of the dimensions of our scholarly community and the great variety and diversity we witnessed." The SHERA host will also attend the glamorous opening reception at the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday evening and try to help them meet American colleagues with similar interests. This is wonderful way to connect yourself with the international community of art historians, especially those from our part of the world, and strengthen your ties with the College Art Association and SHERA. If you are interested in serving as SHERA host at CAA, please write to us at [email protected] to let us know.
