Dear actual and potential members of SHERA:

This message is to inform you about the upcoming membership meeting and
reception that are taking place during CAA conference on Friday, February
13, at 5:30 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Watson Library. Jared Ash,
a Watson Librarian and our member, has generously offered to host the
meeting and the reception on the library's premises. He will follow this
message with a more detailed description of his plans, but here I give a
general schedule of events.

The last CAA session before the membership meeting ends at 5 PM. If you
are planning to attend the meeting, please be certain to arrive at the MET
by 5:30 at the latest. (Since time is limited, you may want to consider
sharing a taxi, because it takes longer by subway or any other form of
public transportation.) Upon arrival, everyone is invited to check their
coats, backpacks and large bags at the coat check in the main hall and
gather at the Group Registration Desk to the left of the central staircase
as you enter the main hall from Fifth Avenue. At 5:35, our group will
depart to Watson Library under the guidance of a museum employee.
Latecomers will be escorted to the library as they arrive. We plan to start
the meeting at 5:45. At 6:30 Watson Library staff will begin showing
select highlights and recent acquisitions from the library collections
related to areas of greatest interest to SHERA members (Russia, Ukraine,
former Soviet Union, Central, South, and Eastern Europe). At 7 light
refreshments will be offered. People will be able to continue viewing
non-rare materials after that time. Although the library closes at 7:30,
MET remains open until 8:45 on Fridays, and you are welcome to explore the
museum and the exhibitions on your own.

Because of limited space and restricted access to rare library materials,
we need to take attendance. Please RSVP to [email protected]
by Friday, January 30, if you intend to come. Your names are going to be
put on the visitor list at the Group Registration Desk and checked-off as
you arrive.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jared for his generosity.

Hope to see many of you at this meeting,
Natasha Kurchanova
