QUERY: the incompetent hero--a belated posting

It is a bit of an oxymoron, is it not? But goodness yes.

Charlie Chaplin (not always incompetent but certainly accidental).

Any harried husband, like Dagwood Bumstead, (though hard to call him a hero
figure I suppose.)

Think harried, self-deprecating (Bob Hope), bumbling, comedic. Comedy is
the first place I'd look. In a serious piece, incompetence would just be
pathetic and unappealing.
