From: "Michael Fitzgerald" <[email protected]> This is kind of interesting: I have a book (a revised version of my doctoral thesis) on American Indian representations on US television coming out in 2014 year on Scarecrow Press, thanks to Cynthia Miller. It begins, of course, with the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Classic Media, the current owners of the screen images, would not grant me permission to use pictures from the series in my book because, they said, my chapter paints the Ranger in a bad light. I suppose it does: I made a pretty solid case that the series glorified Anglo-Saxon world domination and that its creator, George Trendle, was steeped in racist ideology. An version of the chapter appears in the February issue of Journal of Popular Culture. Would be interested in comments. Thanks, Michael Ray Fitzgerald, Jacksonville (Fla.)
