I've done some further testing (350 lists; 42% success rate), and I
either have to up the time limit for funnelling messages into
gmane.config (where I can respond to "reply to confirm" messages), or I
have to cut down the batch size.

One complicating factor is that many MTAs use greylisting, so the
subscription messages aren't actually received until (say) fifteen
minutes after I've sent them...

I think for me to realistically get through this in time, I have to aim
for batches of about 500 list, which will mean (if my guesstimation here
is correct) that when a list is un/resubscribed, about one hour's worth
of messages to that list will be lost.

No huge tragedy, I guess, but just a heads up...
