I wonder if the nice folks at archive.org would be interested in 
running Gmane? They archive websites, books, movies, old 8-bit 
games and all kinds of things. It's not a perfect match, as the 
website archives are always a bit out of date while Gmane is 
useful because it is as close to real-time as a list subscriber's 
email inbox. But I think they must have a bunch of lawyers to deal 
with requests to remove stuff from their archive, which I 
understand has been a big difficulty when running Gmane as a 
hobby.
