FWIW, I have never met a overlord that _initially_ subscribed me to their service on opt-out basis; except, perhaps, natural monopolies, such as electricity, heating, etc suppliers, but even they try to get a contract actually signed as soon as possible. So no, itʼs unlike. I suppose, the key difference here is rather between listserver and me, than between Gmane and, say, Google.
