Best thing is to let it run out completely and after 60 days, it will be 
released to the general public to buy it for $10 unless the current 
owner re-registers it by that time.

He might have lost interest in it so with some good luck, it will be 
available for $10.  Best thing is to not to discuss about it on public 
forums and also not to check its availability more often because that 
might alert the current owner to think that there is some interest in 
the domain name so he might renew it again and this might prove 
difficult to get it for a sausage!
