Page Settings

Just installed Abiword for the first time (version 2.8.6).

I went to File>>Page Setup.  It displays the Paper Size as Letter,
Width 8.5, Height 11.0, and Units as Inch.

Not finding the paper size that I wanted, I selected Custom, Width
5.5, Height 8.5, and Units as INCH.  I press OK, but when the page is
redisplayed, it is obviously not what I selected.  I go back to Page
Setup, and everything is as I had selected EXCEPT the Units now show
as MM.  I change it back to Inch, but now when I press OK, I am warned
"The margins selected are too large to fit on the page."  So, even
though the Units says Inch, it obviously is still thinking in mm (i.e.
the default 1 inch margins are much too large for a page that is 5.5 x
8.5 MM).

I'm less than 5 minutes into using Abiword for the first time, and I'm
already stuck.

HELP!!!  Why can't I set the page size correctly?
