Embedded image size question

I am using the abiword command line on a web server to convert word docs to
email messages in html format.  I need to embed pictures and have used that
command line option.  It works well, but it appears to only work on very
small images (maybe 30k).  Is this a hard limitation, or is there a command
line option I can add to allow for larger images?  

I am using the command line on a CentOS 5.2/Apache web server. Thanks.
