You could examine your template (is a readable file) with notepad (or with
Abiword if you open it as a "txt file") and search for an "s" tag to check it
reads "font-weight:bold" and "font-style:italic". In my file, there is a line
that looks like this:

<s followedby="Current settings" name="titulo" basedon="Heading 1" type="P" props="text-indent:0in; orphans:2; margin-top:0pt; margin-left:0pt; list-decimal:.; line-height:1.0; keep-with-next:no; lang:es-ES; text-align:left; list-style:None; keep-together:no; color:000000; dom-dir:ltr; margin-bottom:0pt; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none; bgcolor:transparent; start-value:1; font-stretch:normal; font-variant:normal; font-size:24pt; margin-right:0pt; font-style:italic; widows:2; list-delim:%L; font-family:URW Palladio L"/>
