how to use Bitfluxeditor

I have downloaded the editor and by opening index.html I see how it works: 
I can turn text italic or whatever, on screen (though I don't seem to be 
able to save the changes).

But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use it for my own work. 
What I basically want to do is compose XML documents, seeing what I am 
doing as I go along, in Mozilla, where the XML tags will be displayed as my 
XSL stylesheet instructs. In simplest terms: suppose I start with a file 
which is just a string of text, tagged with the root element of a DTD. I 
want to change and add material to this, highly structured stuff controlled 
by tags and entities, seeing the results of my additions in Mozilla as I go 
along. When I am through this editing process I want to save the XML file 
and then use it in a program of my own (an executable Perlscript, as a 
matter of fact) for the processing which that program performs. It would be 
like using an XML wordprocessor, in short, displaying the files in the 
browser and saving them in XML format rather than the proprietary format a 
wordprocessor (like WordPerfect, say) uses.

The descriptions of Bitfluxeditor on the website seem to suggest that it is 
perfect for my purposes.

I have XML files already (and will have more: the point is to edit the ones 
I have and create new ones), and a DTD and an XSL stylesheet which 
translates my XML into HTML for purposes of looking at it (that is, that's 
a temporary stage: saving the XML files as such is the ultimate point).

All I seem to be able to do with what I downloaded is look at and edit the 
index.html file in Bitfluxeditor by clicking on it in the Bitfluxeditor 
folder. I don't see how to start up the editor and put my own XML files in 
it, connected to my DTD and stylesheet.

Have I completely misunderstood, and is Bitfluxeditor not the tool I need, 
not a WYSIWYG XML text editor?
