Mike,

Thanks for the valuable tip.

I looked at Charis, then deleted it. Then what you said above sunk in, 
and I added it back, and unchecked "Font substitution : Search all 
system fonts".

Things like delimiters, arrows, and vertical bars are high-value items, 
if they look different and good, so getting even a few good symbols from 
a font can be useful. I now have to go back through some fonts that 
looked at and rejected.
