George,

Thanks for the links. The license says I can't distribute it. Having a
secondary font that covers most of what , like GNU Unifont, is more
important than quality.

Thanks for the tip about ViewGlyph. I found it here:

http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&id=ViewGlyph_home

This will be invaluable. The jEdit 'Character Map' shows the Unicode
blocks, but this one lets me quickly load fonts and scroll top to bottom.

In fact, it _has already been_ invaluable. I'm getting some education
out of it. The 'View' field is taking some mystery out of Windows
character display (1252?) versus the Unicode display.

There's this GNU Unifont 'unifont_upper-10.0.07.ttf' which is in some
upper range of Unicode. Nothing showed up in 'Character Map', but is
taking the mystery out of that. 'Glyph IDs', 'Windows UCS-4', and 'Apple
Unicode Unknown (4)' all show the glyphs. I don't need this font, but at
least I get to see something, rather than, "Hmmm, I don't see anything.
What's up with this upper stuff?"

Also, pursuing things a little bit more here, it helped me see I
shouldn't install any of my 'lib/fonts/DejaVuSansMono...ttf' fonts in
Windows.

I did that to customize Notepad++ as a normal user, but I uninstalled
DejaVu fonts from Windows. I want guarantees that what I'm seeing is
coming from the JRE 'lib/fonts' folder.

Thanks,
GB
