just tried to reproduce - without any "success". System:

Windows 10, Oracle JRE 8, jEdit 5.4.0:

java.version=1.8.0_144

java.vm.version=25.144-b01

java.vm.name=Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM

java.runtime.version=1.8.0_144-b01

java.runtime.name=Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment

java.vendor=Oracle Corporation

java.compiler=null

os.name=Windows 10

os.version=10.0

os.arch=amd64

Click somewhere in the jEdit
window so that the selected text becomes un-selected.

jEdit’s CPU usage drops back to
zero.

This occurs under Windows 7, Oracle Java
1.8, jEdit 5.4.0 and is completely repeatable.
