Can no longer open files in jedit from the command line in MacOS

Hi everyone

I’m using jEdit (5.6.0) on my Mac, as I have been doing for some time, but for some reason in the last few weeks:

open -a /Applications/jEdit.app myFile.txt

does not open myFile.txt, just a blank jEdit window. This may be since upgrading to MacOS 12.5 (from 12.4) although I’m not 100% sure.

Is anyone else seeing this?

For extra context, I have to hack to use jEdit at all (someone on this mailing list helped me with this a few years ago) because just starting up jEdit tries to use some ancient java version and it fails. So instead I have had to use a script to find the correct java and invoke things, and then I have to compile that with shc so that MacOS will set the security settings so I can actually open files (seriously….). I don’t know whether this is the problem.

If anyone knows a solution to this, or a better (i.e. simpler) way to make jEdit “just work” on MacOS, please let me know!

Thanks

Phil
