Hello Heinz,

the german Tutorial states in sec. 2.1:

"Die Beispieldateien finden Sie im Verzeichnis [Resources/]examples/de 
des LyX-Installationsordners. Laden Sie die nicht modifizierte Datei und 
verwenden Sie Datei->Speichern unter, um eine editierbare Kopie in Ihrem 
privaten LyX-Verzeichnis anzulegen. Sie können die Auswirkungen Ihrer 
Änderungen in der Vorschau betrachten.
Darüber hinaus finden Sie in examples[/de] viele weitere Beispieldateien."

Isn't this enough info?

This method does for example not work on Windows. That's why the 
tutorial only mentioned the folder where you can find the files.
