Thanks for testing.  The third version of the patch (that I'll post in a few
minutes) should fix those problems.

Okay.  Good to hear.

(The thing I most disliked about your implementation was the need to fill a 
string with spaces, to stand in for a line that is fully offscreen to the left.
And now that I've read the associated comment and tried it out...  No no, the
mark should not highlight anything if there are not actually any characters
there -- let alone highlight right through the "scrollbar", the indicator.)

Then now comes the question: what to call the option that activates this
feature.  Or... maybe this feature should become the new default?  Because
it is much more user friendly than the current behavior of scrolling just
the current line.  I will send a separate email (an RFC) about this.
