backwards tabbing

Hi,

I have setup nedit to emulate tabs with spaces so I can use it with python. 
However I then don't seem to be able to tab backwards, i.e. ctrl+tab, to 
shift back to the left, that is possible in say emacs? Is there a way 
to force this to happen?
