How about just putting the archives into ZIP files and serving them from the 
'downloads' area? Users could then 'grep' the downloaded files. Not very 
pretty, but this would require very little time from the team.

Better alternative but more work required: "print" them into PDFs and create 
search indices. Serve both from 'downloads'. The Adobe PDF search engine is 
actually reasonably powerful. It used to be common practice in the *nix 
industry to do this with help files.

The archives would need to be "sanitized" to remove all email addresses 
before making them available for any kind of download.
