Because it looks very ugly on OS X, Vista and some GTK+ themes and 
because it was an abuse of progress bar control to begin with.

If you're worried about the percentage indicator (even though you have 
the same values still shown in absolute numbers), it will be back in 
1.3.8 -- but it involves translation updates and I don't want to 
touch that before 1.3.7.
