Hm, I was thinking somehow that there should be at least two ways to do
this.
One may be a spell checker at the OS level. Any application that wants
to do a spell check should ask the OS if a spell check is present and
if yes, then call some OS routines (APIs).
The other may be a spell checker at the application level. The
application knows how to use spell check in any way it likes
(proprietary, non-proprietary, whatever).

I don't know much on this, merely because the existing dictionary for
ASPELL or ISPELL for my language (Romanian) is poor and in incorrect
encoding, let alone the difficulties on Windows implementation.
