Suggestion 5 - File comparing I was thinking about something else as well. Since poEdit can use POT template to update the PO file, and it can sort lines according to their status, what about some means to compare PO files? Like, opening and viewing two PO files simultaneously? For instance, older and newer versions, two different but similar PO files… This option could be very useful in a case which I'll describe using true example from Fedora localization project... When programmers make changes in POT (add lines, modify existing lines, correct typos in old lines) they very seldom notify translators about those changes. There is no list of lines and what has been modified. And, instead of uploading separate revisions (one with only fixed typos, another with only added lines), they upload all changes in the single run. Result: I had a file with 2700 lines, all translated. They pumped up the file up to 8100 lines. Difference is about 5400 lines, and there should be 2700 translated lines, right? Well, no. About 500-1000 old lines were modified (for typos only!), some 1000-2000 lines were transferred from other PO files, and some 2000 new lines were pretranslated by their server script. I wish they did not fix those typos because now, somewhere in the file, there are about 1000-2000 perfectly fine lines that will not show up in application because they are marked as "fuzzy". I have older version of 100% translated PO file. I cannot compare it with any application that compares files, as most of the changes in the POT itself are about code (counting the characters of file when opened in Notepad). Comparing html exported with poEdit is very tiresome, and because order of some line was changed, I have diff because a line was relocated to a different location in file. So, I was hoping if it could be possible to have two panes (left and right, like in WinMerge) where lines would be sorted and compared, according to user defined settings (original text, translated text, number of diff words…) Thanks! -- Best regards, Renato Pavicic mailto:repavici<att>globalnet.hr also mailto:renato<att>translator-shop.org homepage: www.translator-shop.org Official Opera translator for Croatian language since April 2006 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
